Government funded assistance, commonly known as ‘legal aid’, allows people without financial means to act and defend themselves before the judicial authorities. In particular, assistance is guaranteed (art.74 DPR 115/2002) in civil, administrative, financial and taxation cases and in non-contentious jurisdiction, for the defence of any citizen without financial means whose motives are not manifestly unfounded, as well as in criminal trials for the defence of any such citizen who is investigated, indicted, condemned, a victim of crime, or injured, who intends to become a civil party, civilly liable, or is civilly liable to pay a fine.
